New Jersey Turnpike is a multi-block relief print combining woodcut and engraving, created using a reduction process to produce a layered, seven-colour print.
The work explores themes of connection, place, and loss, reflecting on how the ocean unites coastal regions across the world. It draws parallels between Norfolk’s coastline and other areas affected by or facing rising sea levels.
The engraving incorporates drawings of rock armour and reefs constructed to protect the Norfolk seawall, alongside maps depicting the 1953 flood damage at Sea Palling, a Norfolk coastal village, as well as projected flood maps of New York.
