profile

Neil Bousfield is a British artist-printmaker known for his distinctive approach to wood engraving and woodcut. He grew up on the North Yorkshire coast and has lived in Norfolk since 2010, where the landscape and the fragile interplay between land and sea continue to influence his work. His reduction and multi-block relief prints combine traditional techniques with innovative approaches, using both synthetic and natural printing blocks.

Living on the low-lying North Norfolk coast has led Bousfield to focus on communities directly threatened by rising sea levels. His engravings, most recently Coastal Defence, explore the impact of coastal erosion and climate change on vulnerable communities, connecting his local experiences on the Norfolk coast with the wider challenges facing shorelines worldwide.

Bousfield’s work is widely exhibited and held in private and public collections worldwide. His multi-layered engravings have featured in Folio Society editions, including Wilfred Owen: Selected Poems and Cicero: Selected Letters & Speeches and more recently in Craftland by James Fox. He is a member of the Society of Wood Engravers and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Printmakers.

“Neil is one of the most highly respected and innovative engravers working today. His technical skill transforms this ancient medium, pushing it to a new modernity & relevance. This, coupled with his unique vision, creates unforgettable multi-layered images – art for today & tomorrow” J. Bell
