‘Dividing Line’ explores the emotional construct of place, examining how landscapes evolve into the familiar places we inhabit and call home. Walking creates narratives enriched by memory, history, and artefacts, shaping a sense of place as a palimpsest of experiences and interpretations. Focusing on what has disappeared and continues to vanish, the work examines the interplay between the dividing line of land and sea, surface and depth.
Several blocks were used in this piece, each adding to the image and serving to produce one of its colours. The process begins with drawings made in response to a specific location, which are then combined with map drawings, patterns, and archival materials to create a multi-layered design.
