‘Dorothy Walking’ is the first in a planned series of smaller engravings that explore the visual language of the grid. The piece is partly inspired by a series of drawings based on Dorothy Annan’s ceramic murals, which were relocated to the Barbican – now home to so many. The grid in this work evokes a process of mapping and plotting, a way of understanding place and landscape. Walking a dog becomes a metaphor for the routines and everyday experiences that ground us in our surroundings, turning them into places that eventually feel like home.
