‘Long Time Losing’ explores themes of place and place-making, with the figure of a dog symbolising attachment and experiences gathered through walking. The abstracted landscape draws on elements of maps, mapping, aerial photography, and scans of the North Sea seabed. Here, along the low-lying Norfolk coast, where rising sea levels are a stark reality, the work invites contemplation of what lies beneath the sea and what may one day become archaeology.
At the heart of the piece is Dylan (2008–2020), a cherished companion who was an integral part of daily life for many years.
This multiple block woodcut and engraving has been cut and printed using the reduction method, a process that gradually removes sections of the block to create a layered and evolving composition.
