‘The Last Reef’ is a wood engraving of a seascape, inspired by drawings made during coastal walks near our home on the North Norfolk coast. The print features a stylised sun, surrounded by fine, dramatic lines representing rainfall. Below, abstract waves, scattered rocks and posts mark the reef – a barrier protecting the shore against the encroaching tide. Nine offshore reefs help break the force of storm waves before they reach the beach, gradually building up the foreshore and shaping this local coastline into a striking scalloped shoreline, while also managing wider coastal changes.
This engraving is part of a series made using multiple colour blocks. Additional prints from the series are available to view here
