The sea and sky seem to merge, yet each remains distinct. The rising sun breaks through the horizon, projecting a warm and unusual light. Starting as a dull honey radiance, it grows into a golden array that illuminates the shore, saturating and dominating the scene. Early morning walks along the Norfolk coast offer the chance to witness this striking sight; a moment of stillness as the sun fills the sky and the day begins. A prominent post marks the reef, a barrier of rocks built to protect the shore from the encroaching tide.
‘The Rising Sun’ was developed from drawings made during coastal walks near our home on the North Norfolk coast. This engraving is part of a series made using multiple colour blocks. Additional prints from the series are available to view here
